Murty, Root, Mother Nature take victories

Three rained out features to be part of double features in coming weeks
Sat, Jun 4, 2005 -- Saturday Night Points Race #7
Written by: Ryan Clark
Only two of the five scheduled feature events were completed before racing action was halted at Independence Motor Speedway. Severe weather moved into the area following the B modified feature, forcing the postponement of the I.M.C.A. late model, I.M.C.A. modified and I.M.C.A. hobby stock main events.

In the I.M.C.A. stock car feature, pole-sitter Chris Henry set the early pace. Henry maintained his stay out front while Damon Murty and Dan Trimble worked through traffic from eighth and ninth row starting positions.

Murty and Trimble made their way through the field and settled into second and third on lap seven. The top three remained unchanged until the caution flag waved at the race’s midway point on lap 10.

Henry continued to lead until he spun coming out of turn four, bringing out the event’s final caution on lap 12. The caution forced Henry to the rear and awarded Murty the lead in the process.

Following the restart, Justin Temeyer, who started 14th, made his way into a battle for the runner-up spot with Trimble. Murty continued to lead the remainder of the event en route to his third victory of the season. Trimble and Temeyer swapped second a number of times, with Trimble holding the edge at the stripe. Temeyer finished third.

Brian Kauffman suffered the same fate as Henry in the B modified main event. Kauffman led at the drop of the green flag through the eighth lap when a bobble allowed Brett Root to pass for the lead.

Just two laps later, Kauffman spun, bringing out the yellow flag. Upon the restart, Root continued to lead while Brian Kunkle challenged for the position. Root held on at the finish line to pick up his second win of the year. Kunkle finished second with Kip Siems in third.

The late model and modified features that were rained out will be made up on Saturday, June 11. The hobby stock feature will be made up the following week, June 18. The three divisions will have double features on the nights they make up their June 4 event.
