Eric Weber and Brian Happel stole the spotlight as each driver picked up his first career victory at Independence Motor Speedway. The program, which offered 123 cars and 29 events, including double features in the I.M.C.A. late model and I.M C.A. modified divisions, was completed in just three hours and 45 minutes.
Weber led all but the first lap of the 20-lap I.M.C.A. stock car main event. After starting inside the third row, he made his way around Jamie Whitaker on the second lap to secure the lead. Weber then held off the stern challenges of Justin Temeyer, Jarod Weepie and Damon Murty throughout the event to score the first win of his career. The top four finished in that order. Happel, who has had nothing but bad luck throughout the first half of the season, put together 15 solid laps as he led the I.M.C.A. hobby stock feature in its entirety. After inheriting the pole position following an early caution, Happel took command of the event. He then survived a trio of caution flags to take his first-ever win ahead of Shane Ebaugh and points leader Patrick Stansbery. Double features were on tap for the late model and modified divisions, which saw their main events fall to rain a week ago. In the modified makeup feature, Jason Snyder was looking for his first career victory as he paced the field with a handful of laps remaining. Vern Jackson, who started 10th, made a pass for the lead with just four laps to go as he drove to his second win of the season ahead of Joey Schaefer and points leader Troy Cordes. The story was similar in the regular modified feature, with Adam Bolin looking for his first-ever trip to victory lane. He led the event for the first 15 laps until Troy Cordes and Jerry Luloff worked into a three-car battle for the lead. Cordes took charge with four laps to go as he scored his first win of the year ahead of Luloff and a hard-charging Jackson. Darin Duffy took control on the fifth lap of the 25-lap late model makeup feature. Duffy cruised to the win by a straightaway margin in the caution-free event. Greg Hunter and Curt Martin finished second and third. In the regular late model feature, second-year driver Joel Brasch took command from his front row start. Brasch paced the 20-car field for the first 17 laps until veteran Curt Martin drove the low groove into the lead. Martin set sail once he took command as he drove to his second win of the season. Hunter and Josh McGowan completed the top three. Johnathan Thimmesch scored his first win of the season in the B modified feature. Thimmesch took the lead on the second lap on his way to the victory in the caution-free 15-lapper. Joe Docekal made a hard charge late, but ran out of time as he finished second. Danny Dvorak was third. The hobby stock feature that was rained out on June 4 will be made up next Saturday, June 18, as double features will be held in that division. RESULTS I.M.C.A.
