An impressive field of 28 I.M.C.A. late models signed in to compete on the 3/8-mile Independence Motor Speedway. When the final checkers flew, it was Darin Duffy making his way to victory lane.
Pole-sitter Greg Hunter took the early advantage from his pole position start as he led the 20-car feature field for the first seven laps. Tyler Bruening and Jerry Dedrick gave chase while Duffy, who started sixth, made his way into a battle for the top spot just a handful of laps into the event. Duffy ran the high line to make his bid for the lead on the eighth lap of the 25-lapper. He withstood the challenges of Hunter and held on following two caution periods to score the victory. Hunter and Dedrick finished second and third. Bruening, with his fourth place finish, took the division's points lead. Front row starters Adam Gebel and Rod Grother swapped the lead over the first five laps of the I.M.C.A. hobby stock feature. On the sixth circuit, Chris Luloff took command only to see his engine catch on fire just one lap later. Grother took control from that point on to drive to his first win of the season. Matt Hogan came from a fifth row start to finish second, with Bill Meyer in third. Chris Wessner was the early leader of the I.M.C.A. stock car main event. He held the advantage until Damon Murty pulled alongside to challenge for the lead on the sixth lap. Going into turns three and four, Wessner broke loose, spinning out and bringing out the caution flag. Following the restart, Murty paced the field for the remainder of the event to take the win ahead of Eric Weber and Brett Mather. A number of early cautions slowed the I.M.C.A. modified feature, but that did not faze veteran Garry Stuber. Stuber took command on the first lap and held the lead for the entire 20-lap event to score the win ahead of Tim Murty and Troy Cordes. John Bates led all 15 laps of the B modified feature to take his first win of the year. Bob Ebaugh and Danny Dvorak chased Bates to the checkers. RESULTS I.M.C.A. LATE MODEL First heat 1.
